Piping Designer Certifcate Program

The curriculum includes courses that cover fundamental and advanced piping design, basic drafting and GD&T, a leading Mechanical Design Application and associated lab work that ties the curriculum together. The skills learned can be used in virtually any industry that requires the design or retrofit of piping systems.

Piping Designers are typically responsible for the design and layout of piping, utility systems and equipment in new and existing petro-chemical plants, waste water treatment plants and domestic nuclear, geothermal, bio-fuel, clean coal and natural gas power facilities. Piping designers prepare piping arrangements in accordance with pipe stress and support configuration criteria; optimize pipe routing with equipment and other service arrangements such as HVAC, domestic water; account for operability and maintenance considerations; check, back check, and correct drawings and isometrics. They also prepare, review and check drawings; perform 3D model review; input and extract information from 3D models; input to design database, datasheets, bulk material requisitions and technical bid evaluations; prepare and revise P&ID, piping isometrics, etc. Piping Designers usually work under the direction of a Lead Piping Engineer and provide oversight and direction to junior design staff.
